Dr Colin Begg, Consultant Paediatric Intensivist

Colin joined PICU as a Consultant in 2013 after Fellowship training at British Columbia Children's Hospital in Vancouver. A graduate of Glasgow University, he completed basic paediatric training in Scotland before moving to Australia to work for NSW Emergency Transport Service, where he became interested in a career in critical care. After Registrar rotations in Paediatric Emergency Medicine & Paediatric Critical Care at Westmead Children's Hospital, Colin returned to Scotland in 2005 for Specialist Registrar training, qualifying in 2011.

He is webmaster for this site and also leads the PICU Equipment and Guidelines groups. Clinical interests include cardiac intensive care, ECLS, respiratory viral illnesses, global health and clinical management of sepsis. He is a Trustee of FEAT, the sepsis charity.

Colin is a published poet and also edits a literary magazine in his free time. He enjoys music, hillwalking, cycle-touring and skiing. A self-confessed bike geek, he believes that the optimum number of bicycles in any home is n-1, where n  is the number of bicycles at which your spouse will leave you...
